04. The Vow

For the one who feels like home
I choose you, without reason or rule,
Not by duty, not by blood,
But because something in me
Sees something in you, and smiles.
I give you what I can, when I can,
No ledgers, no promises I can't keep.
Just the real things—quiet honesty,
Shared secrets, the safety of showing up.
My home is yours to wander barefoot,
To laugh too loud, or sit in silence.
To cry into tea, or dance in the kitchen,
Whatever the moment calls for.
My strength is not always loud.
But it will hold you when you need holding,
Stand still when the world spins,
And remind you, gently, that you're not alone.
My kindness is not a performance.
It's the blanket I fold at the end of the couch,
The message I send when I know you're retreating,
The softness that says, "You don't have to explain."
I stand with you, not out of habit,
But because I want to.
Through your best days, and the ones
You'd rather erase, I'll be here.
This friendship is ours to shape,
Not by rulebooks or timelines,
But by small, deliberate acts
Of choosing each other, again and again.
This is my vow,
Not perfect, not poetic,
But real.
Yours, for as long as I breathe
