12. Heaven

This has been the best week of my life.
A little slice of heaven, nestled between hours.
Already, I miss him,
though it’s only been moments,
his absence echoes louder than silence.
I see him—
on the dining chair,
head bowed in prayer,
or tossing words into the air,
half of which I’ve already forgotten.
I see him—
in my kitchen, leaning back,
telling me things that didn’t matter,
except they did.
Because he was there.
I see us—
curled on this couch,
wrapped in the hush of arms,
held in the warmth of belonging.
I see us—
in the friend room,
laughing too loudly,
losing ourselves in nonsense
just to feel the sweetness of each other’s joy.
I see us—
in the corridor,
stealing seconds,
pausing hearts mid-beat
just to remember they’re still alive.
I see us—
in my room,
burning, yearning,
kindling hunger into fire,
teaching skin the meaning of firsts.
I see us—
playing like children beneath the water’s fall,
no world beyond the droplets,
no time but now.
I see us—
on the road,
moving as one,
quietly content,
whole.
I see him—
his smile, his stare,
the scent of him stitched into my breath.
I touch his lips, pull him near,
as if he had always been mine.
And he was.
For these six days,
he was mine to hold,
mine to love,
mine to remember.
